What actually happens during the session?
Children work in small groups that are tailored to their examination requirements. This may be 11+, SATs or GCSE but we are examination focused and as such, this forms the basis of all our tuition.
Our tutors are specialists in their field, and it is their knowledge and expertise that make the real difference to your child’s progress
So, what will happen is that there are a full range of strategies used for one goal and one goal only – maximizing exam grades.
Things you will see:
- Pupils using the mark schemes to mark papers and grade them.
- Pupils setting exam questions and designing their own mark schemes
- Pupils working consistently one if not two grades above their predicted grades.
- Pupils producing Controlled Assessments one-two grades higher than their predicted grades.
- Pupils taught specifically how to optimise grades based on the advice of the GCSE markers in the room who know exactly what the exam boards are looking for.
If your child is in Key Stage 3 (Years 7-8) in our experience the intervention needed is normally to compensate gaps in learning from the early years and this often means going back to basics. Again you will not see death by grammar worksheets but more often than not you will see your child teaching! The best way to progress lower school children is to identify their areas of weakness and encourage them to teach the skills to others.
What if my child is of a lower or higher ability of the others in the group?
Fortunately at Conexus Tutors we have an extensive team of tutors and are able to accommodate and group children within ability ranges. What may be the case is that children of different year groups are together and vertical teaching is a fabulous way of maximising potential.
Year group tuition
We divide the pupils we tutor into year groups to ensure that we are targeting their needs and age range capabilities directly.
Children may either stay for just one year group session, to meet a temporary need, or work their way through the age groups if they require tutoring on a more regular basis throughout their school career.
Our range of year groups
- Flying start (Years 1 – 4)
- Excelling at 11+ and Entrance Exams (Years 3-6)
- Sailing through SATs (Years 5 – 6)
- Conquering Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 8)
- Gearing up for GCSE (Years 9 – 11)
For every school stage
Whatever stage of their school career your child is at, they will be tutored alongside children of a similar age, learning material that is suitable for their year group.
Conexus Tuition tutors teach in term time only, in line with the academic school calendar. Working alongside the school term enables our pupils to focus on what they are learning during the school term and have a well-deserved break during the holidays.
Our tuition prices remain competitive for our pupils and their parents. We try to keep our prices as low as we can to be inclusive of the greater learning community.
