News and Events
Hi Parents,
Well, it looks as though the end could be in sight at long last. The Government have announced a return to the classroom for all pupils on March 8th.
Myself, I feel that this is right – children thrive on being with their peers and numerous students I’ve chatted with during our online learning sessions have stated how desperate they are to return. They miss their friends, the routine, the interaction, and, dare I say it, the teachers!
Although my sons are now out of full-time education, I had to guide my youngest through college – set lessons last year during lockdown. He has no live lessons, just assignments to complete. It wasn’t easy, as I certainly didn’t have the skills to guide him through a Sports BTEC! Nor was I qualified to guide him through his GCSE English Language and Maths resits, as I am a Spanish/French teacher myself – I spent hours trawling the curriculum, finding past papers, emailing teachers and tutors, checking he had completed everything as at times instructions from the college were less than clear. It worked mostly – he gained a distinction in his BTEC and passed his English Language – although he didn’t quite get there in Maths! To summarise, he was demotivated, he missed his mates, and some days it was a huge uphill struggle to get him to engage.
So, I salute all those parents who have been home schooling whilst holding down a job and coping with all the other challenges caused by lockdown and school closures. You have done an amazing job.
